Japan Shinkansen Heritage Route: Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka 10-Day Itinerary

Plan Your Trip

Rent a Car in Japan

Renting a car is optional on this route as the Shinkansen (bullet train) provides excellent connectivity between major cities. However, renting a car is highly recommended for exploring remote areas like Takayama, Kanazawa, and Narai-juku mountain towns, where public transportation is limited. A car provides flexibility to visit hidden shrines, small villages, and scenic viewpoints not accessible by train. JR Pass (10-day: ¥44,810) is more economical than renting for Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka connections, but combining a 3-day car rental (¥6,000-9,000) with JR Pass offers the best experience.
