Bangkok Grand Palace
The Grand Palace is Bangkok's most spectacular landmark and the most visited site in Thailand, a magnificent complex of glittering buildings, temples, and ceremonial halls covering 218,400 square meters at the heart of the old city. Built in 1782 when Bangkok became the capital, the palace served as the official residence of the Thai King for 150 years and continues to be used for royal ceremonies and state occasions. Within the complex stands Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), Thailand's most sacred Buddhist temple.
