Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución)

Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución)

The Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución) is Mexico City's vast main square and the symbolic heart of the nation, one of the largest city squares in the world at 57,600 sq meters. Surrounded by the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace (with Diego Rivera's epic murals), and colonial government buildings, it has been the center of Mexican political and cultural life since the Aztec Templo Mayor stood here. The square hosts major national celebrations, concerts, and demonstrations.
