Zakynthos Town (Zante)

Zakynthos Town (Zante) is the capital of the Greek Ionian island of Zakynthos, rebuilt in Neoclassical style after the catastrophic 1953 earthquake destroyed the original Venetian city. The elegant arcaded main square, Agios Markos, fronts a seafront lined with cafés; the Byzantine Museum houses rescued masterpieces of the Ionian School. Zakynthos is also the embarkation point for boat trips to the famous Shipwreck Beach (Navagio) and the Blue Caves.
