Wat Phra Singh
Wat Phra Singh is Chiang Mai's most revered and magnificent temple, housing the Phra Singh Buddha image, one of northern Thailand's most sacred religious objects, in an elaborate gilded ordination hall that is a masterpiece of Lanna temple architecture. Founded in 1345 CE, the temple was the religious center of the Chiang Mai kingdom and its beautifully proportioned buildings showcase the distinctive Lanna style with their sweeping tiered roofs, intricate wooden gables, and golden naga serpents. The surrounding walled compound with ancient trees and meditative atmosphere makes Wat Phra Singh both a living religious center and an unmissable cultural heritage site.
