Hie Shrine
Hie Shrine is a peaceful Shinto sanctuary in Akasaka, one of Tokyo's quietest and most atmospheric shrines despite being surrounded by office towers in the heart of the city. Founded in the 14th century, it is dedicated to the guardian deity of the former Edo Castle and is famous for its tunnel of vermilion torii gates climbing the wooded hillside. The Sanno Matsuri held here is one of Tokyo's three great festivals.
