Barcelona França Train Station
Estació de França is Barcelona's most architecturally magnificent railway station, a grand neoclassical structure with a spectacular 19th-century iron-and-glass train shed that remained the city's main terminus until the opening of Sants in 1979. Today the station handles a reduced service — suburban Rodalies to the Maresme coast and some medium-distance services to Tarragona — but its position in the Barceloneta neighborhood near the Born district, the Gothic Quarter, and the Olympic Port gives it an elegant role in the city's eastern transport network. The station's main hall is frequently used for exhibitions, fashion shows, and cultural events that capitalize on its extraordinary architectural grandeur.
