Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen)

The Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) in Tromsø, Norway, is one of the most striking pieces of modern religious architecture in Scandinavia, a soaring aluminum-clad structure built in 1965 whose angular white form is designed to evoke ice floes and the aurora borealis. The cathedral's west wall features a stunning contemporary mosaic of the Second Coming by stained glass artist Gunnar Sønsteby, and midnight sun concerts in summer are a highlight of the Arctic city's cultural calendar.
