Sumida River Fireworks Festival
The Sumida River Fireworks Festival is one of Tokyo's oldest and most beloved summer traditions, held annually on the last Saturday of July. Dating back to 1733, the festival launches approximately 20,000 fireworks from two sites along the Sumida River, illuminating the sky above downtown Tokyo for 90 minutes. The spectacular display attracts nearly a million spectators who line the riverbanks in traditional yukata (summer kimono), and the celebration is deeply woven into the cultural fabric of Tokyo's historic downtown neighborhoods.
