Osaka Castle
Osaka Castle is one of Japan's most iconic historic landmarks, a magnificent five-story main tower surrounded by extensive stone walls and two moats in the heart of Osaka. Originally built in 1583 by the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi to serve as the center of a unified Japan, the current ferro-concrete reconstruction (1931) houses a museum chronicling the castle's dramatic history. The surrounding parkland is one of Osaka's premier cherry blossom spots.
