One Pillar Pagoda
The One Pillar Pagoda (Chùa Một Cột) in Hanoi is one of Vietnam's most iconic religious monuments, a tiny wooden Buddhist temple rising from a single stone pillar in the middle of a lotus pond. Built in 1049 by Emperor Lý Thái Tông following a dream of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, it is designed to resemble a lotus flower emerging from water. Though small, it represents one of the most enduring symbols of Vietnamese Buddhism and architecture.
