Gjirokastër Castle
Gjirokastër Castle is a massive medieval fortress perched on a hilltop above the UNESCO-listed city of Gjirokastër in southern Albania. Dating to the 12th century with major expansions in the 19th century, the castle houses a National Museum of Weapons and the ruins of a Cold War-era US Air Force plane. Its towering walls and panoramic views over the Drino Valley make it one of the Balkans' most impressive fortifications.
