Dubrovnik City Walls

Dubrovnik City Walls (additional reference) are the defining feature of this UNESCO World Heritage city, a near-complete circuit of limestone ramparts rising up to 6 meters thick and 25 meters high encircling the medieval Old Town on the Dalmatian coast. The 2-km wall walk, beginning at the Pile Gate, reveals successive panoramas of the Adriatic Sea, the island of Lokrum, and the terracotta rooftops within the walls. The best time to walk is early morning to avoid the midday heat and cruise-ship crowds.
