Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens near Victoria on Vancouver Island are Canada's finest formal gardens, a 22-hectare horticultural masterpiece created in a worked-out limestone quarry by Jennie Butchart beginning in 1904. The garden's five distinct sections — Sunken Garden, Italian Garden, Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, and Mediterranean Garden — contain over 900 varieties of plants displayed across a spectacular topography. Saturday evening fireworks displays in summer and Christmas light installations make it a year-round destination.
