سان خوسيه

تحمي الحديقة الوطنية لبركان أرينال أيقونة كوستاريكا البركانية النشطة، وهو بركان مخروطي الشكل يبلغ ارتفاعه 1670 متراً، اندلعت حممه باستمرار من 1968 إلى 2010 ولا يزال نشطاً بشكل متقطع. تُشكّل غابات السحاب والينابيع الحرارية المحيطة بها الوجهة السياحية البيئية الأولى في كوستاريكا. تتيح مدينة لا فورتونا عند قاعدة البركان أنشطة متعددة كالتزلق على الحبال والتجديف وجولات الشلالات والمشي في ممرات الغابة المعلقة.

الحديقة الوطنية لمانويل أنطونيو أصغر المتنزهات الوطنية في كوستاريكا وأكثرها زيارة، تقع على ساحل المحيط الهادئ في منطقة كيبوس. تجمع الحديقة بين الشواطئ البكر والغابات المطرية الأولية خلقاً بيئةً فريدة تؤوي حيواناً متنوعاً يشمل قرود الكابوشين والكسلان ثلاثي الأصابع والماكاو الأحمر وأكثر من 350 نوعاً من الطيور.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica is one of the world's premier ecotourism destinations, protecting 10,500 hectares of pristine cloud forest at 1,440 meters elevation. Poás Volcano National Park protects one of the world's most accessible active volcanoes, where a dramatic 1-km-wide crater lake of vivid turquoise acidic water bubbles and fumes just a short walk from the car park at 2,700 meters elevation in Costa Rica's central highlands. The park also features a serene secondary crater lake, Botos, whose cooler waters support cloud forest vegetation. The volcano has been intermittently closed due to activity, so checking conditions before visiting is essential.
