Stone Town
Stone Town is the historic center of Zanzibar City on Tanzania's Unguja island, a UNESCO World Heritage maze of narrow streets, crumbling Arab merchants' houses, ornate carved doorways, and bustling bazaars. For centuries it was the center of the East African slave and spice trades, leaving a rich layered heritage of Omani, Indian, African, and British colonial architecture. The Darajani Market, House of Wonders, and seafront Forodhani Night Market are its most evocative spaces.
