Notting Hill Carnival
Notting Hill Carnival is Europe's largest street festival and the world's second-largest carnival after Rio de Janeiro, held annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend and drawing over one million people to the streets of West London to celebrate Caribbean culture and heritage. Founded in 1966 by the Trinidadian-British community as a celebration of identity and resistance, the carnival features spectacular costumed processions with elaborate floats, world-class Caribbean steel pan bands, and over 40 sound systems playing soca, reggae, calypso, and dancehall. The aroma of jerk chicken, curried goat, and Caribbean rum punch fills the air of Notting Hill's Victorian terraces in an irresistibly joyful celebration.
