Edinburgh New Town

Edinburgh New Town is the 18th-century Georgian planned city that forms the other half of Edinburgh's UNESCO World Heritage site, laid out in a rational grid of wide streets, crescents, and garden squares between 1767 and 1850. Its elegant Georgian townhouses, private gardens, and grand architecture represent the ideals of the Scottish Enlightenment. Princes Street, the New Town's main commercial thoroughfare, offers dramatic views across the valley to the Old Town and castle above.
