Dettifoss Waterfall

Dettifoss Waterfall

Dettifoss in northern Iceland is Europe's most powerful waterfall, where the glacial Jökulsá á Fjöllum river plunges 44 meters over a 100-meter-wide basalt ledge in a thunderous display of raw geological power. The sheer volume of water and the spray rising into the arctic air creates a primeval atmosphere reinforced by the surrounding barren lava plateau. The waterfall gained international fame as the opening sequence location for Ridley Scott's film Prometheus.
