Lake Titicaca is the world's highest navigable lake, straddling the border between Peru and Bolivia at 3,812 meters above sea level on the Andean Altiplano. It is one of South America's largest lakes by area and its deep, intense blue waters hold special spiritual significance for the Andean people. The lake is home to the floating reed islands of the Uros people — artificial islands handwoven from totora reeds — as well as the inhabited island of Taquile, famous for its UNESCO-recognized textile traditions.
