Amman

Die Zitadelle von Amman (Jabal al-Qal'a) ist eine historische Stätte auf einem der sieben Hügel Ammans und umfasst Ruinen aus mehreren Zivilisationen, die bis in die Bronzezeit, die assyrische, hellenistische, römische, byzantinische und umayyadische Epoche zurückreichen. Das beeindruckendste Monument ist der umayyadische Palastkomplex aus dem frühen 8. Jahrhundert n. Chr., während der Heraklestempel — dargestellt durch eine riesige Hand — aus der Römerzeit stammt. Roman theaters are remarkable ancient performance venues built throughout the Roman Empire, designed with semicircular seating arrangements (cavea) cut into hillsides for optimal acoustics. Many Roman theaters have survived remarkably intact across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East—from the Theater of Herodes Atticus in Athens to the Roman Theater of Orange in France. These sites continue to host cultural performances, connecting modern audiences to their ancient heritage.
