Fortaleza de Sagres

Fortaleza de Sagres (Sagres Fort) is a dramatic promontory fortress at the southwestern tip of the Algarve, occupying the windswept headland where Henry the Navigator is said to have established his legendary school of navigation that launched the Age of Exploration. Cabo de São Vicente at the southwestern tip of Portugal is the most southwesterly point of mainland Europe, a dramatic 75-meter-high promontory of black basalt cliffs battered by Atlantic swell, capped by a working lighthouse and a 16th-century Franciscan convent ruin. Fisherman's Trail (Trilho dos Pescadores)

The Fisherman's Trail (Trilho dos Pescadores) is a spectacular 226-km coastal hiking route along the Alentejo and Algarve coastlines of southwestern Portugal, following ancient paths used by local fishermen along some of Europe's most untouched Atlantic cliffs and beaches. The trail passes through the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, the most pristine stretch of the European Atlantic coast, with dramatic sea stacks, remote beaches inaccessible by road, and dramatic cliff scenery. Sections can be walked independently in 1-3 day stages.
