Fortaleza de Sagres
Fortaleza de Sagres (Sagres Fort) is a dramatic promontory fortress at the southwestern tip of the Algarve, occupying the windswept headland where Henry the Navigator is said to have established his legendary school of navigation that launched the Age of Exploration. The fort's Rosa dos Ventos — a huge wind rose measuring 43 meters in diameter, the largest in Portugal — recalls the navigational innovations that made Sagres the cradle of global exploration. The surrounding cliffs offer extraordinary Atlantic views.
