Plaça de Catalunya Metro Station is the symbolic and practical heart of Barcelona's public transit network, located beneath the great civic square where the Eixample grid meets the Gothic Quarter and the Rambla. The station serves Metro Lines L1 (Red) and L3 (Green) and serves as the city-center terminus for the Aerobus airport connection, the Renfe Rodalies commuter rail, and multiple surface bus routes. Above ground, Plaça de Catalunya itself is Barcelona's main gathering space and the starting point for La Rambla — the famous tree-lined promenade descending to the port — making this the most naturally central station from which to begin exploring the city on foot.
