Borghese Gallery
The Borghese Gallery in Rome is one of the world's great small museums, housing a dazzling collection of Bernini sculptures and Caravaggio paintings in an intimate 17th-century casino set within the Villa Borghese gardens. Its masterpieces — including Bernini's Apollo and Daphne and Caravaggio's Boy with a Basket of Fruit — were collected by Cardinal Scipione Borghese and are displayed in lavishly frescoed rooms. Entry is strictly timed and advance booking is essential.
