Biei Patchwork Road
Biei's Patchwork Road in Hokkaido is a scenic country route through the rolling farmland northwest of Biei town, where fields of different crops — lavender, sunflowers, wheat, potatoes, and buckwheat — create a quilt-like patchwork of colors across the gentle hills in summer. Lone sentinel trees (including the famous Ken & Mary Tree poplar) stand in the fields as photogenic focal points. In winter the landscape transforms into an immaculate snowscape with the Tokachi mountain range as a backdrop.
