Inti Raymi Sun Festival
The Festival of the Sun is one of South America's most spectacular indigenous celebrations, held at Sacsayhuaman fortress near Cusco on June 24th, the winter solstice. The ancient Inca ceremony honoring the sun god Inti is reenacted with thousands of participants in elaborate period costumes.
