Osaka Summer Festival

JapanFestivalsDate pending official confirmation

Osaka Summer Festival offers a glimpse of the city’s vibrant summer matsuri tradition, most closely associated with Tenjin Matsuri at Osaka Tenmangū Shrine. Held around 25 July, the festival commemorates the death anniversary of Sugawara no Michizane, a deity known as Tenjin, and is regarded as one of Japan’s three major Shinto festivals. Visitors can experience a lively cultural celebration that builds toward a procession of around 100 river boats and a fireworks display. Lanterns and fireworks reflected on the Okawa River give it the evocative nickname “Festival of Fire and Water.” Check official sources for current dates and arrangements.
