Elafonisi Beach

Elafonisi is one of Greece's most beautiful beaches—a shallow lagoon off southwestern Crete where pink-tinged sand meets crystalline turquoise water. The pink color comes from crushed seashells mixed with white sand. A sandbar connects to the small Elafonisi islet. The beach is a protected nature reserve for Caretta caretta sea turtle nesting. The scenic drive through the White Mountains of western Crete adds to the journey.
