Dotonbori District

Dotonbori District

Dotonbori District in Osaka is famous as Japan's most vibrant food and entertainment area, centered on a canal whose south bank is a continuous wall of restaurants, street food stalls, and entertainment venues operating late into the night. The district is ground zero for Osaka's kuidaore (eat until you drop) culture, where takoyaki, okonomiyaki, fugu, and every other Osaka specialty is served in an atmosphere of exuberant commercial energy. The canal reflection of the neon signs is one of Japan's most iconic nighttime images.
