Banteay Srei

Banteay Srei is Angkor's most exquisitely detailed temple, a 10th-century sandstone shrine dedicated to Shiva whose pink-red stone is carved in extraordinary high relief with mythological scenes and decorative foliage of unparalleled intricacy. Often called the Jewel of Khmer Art, the temple is smaller than the major Angkor monuments but its miniature scale and gem-like carving quality make it the most refined example of classical Khmer architectural decoration. Located 25 km from Siem Reap, it requires a dedicated excursion.
