Mount Fitz Roy
Mount Fitz Roy (Cerro Chaltén) is Patagonia's most dramatic peak, a jagged granite spire rising 3,405 meters above the steppe near the Argentine town of El Chaltén. Its sheer rock walls and frequent cloud cap make it one of the world's most challenging and coveted mountaineering objectives, while the 2-day return trek to Laguna de los Tres beneath the massif is considered one of the finest day hikes in South America. At dawn the granite towers glow orange-red in a phenomenon locals call alpenglow.
