Jogyesa Temple

Jogyesa Temple is the head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and the most important Buddhist temple in Seoul, founded in 1395 at the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty. Located in Insadong, a few minutes from the city center, its Main Hall (Daeungjeon) is adorned with colorful lanterns year-round and draws hundreds of thousands of devotees during the Lotus Lantern Festival each May. The 500-year-old pine and white-bark pine trees in the courtyard are designated natural monuments.
