Edinburgh Waverley Station is Scotland's principal railway hub and one of the most dramatically sited major stations in the world, buried in a glacial valley between the Old Town's medieval tenements and the Georgian New Town. Named after Sir Walter Scott's Waverley novels, it serves as the gateway to Scotland's capital and is the terminus for express services from London King's Cross. The station's glass roof opens to views of Edinburgh Castle dramatically looming above.
