Driving & Transportation Tips
- Ring Road (Route 1) is well-paved and maintained year-round
- Gravel roads: Many side roads to glaciers and hiking trails are gravel - drive slow (50-60 km/h)

- Fuel: Fill up your tank whenever you see a gas station - stations can be 100+ km apart

10-Day Itinerary Overview
Days 1-2: Reykjavik & Vík
- Day 1: Arrive at Keflavik Airport, pick up car, drive to Reykjavik, explore downtown
- Day 2: Drive to Vík via:
- Seljalandsfoss (you can walk BEHIND the waterfall!)
- Skógafoss (powerful and beautiful - climb the stairs for the view)
- Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach (stunning basalt columns - watch out for rogue waves!)
- Stay overnight in Vík
Days 3-4: Skaftafell & Vatnajökull
- Day 3: Continue east to Skaftafell National Park
- Hike the 4-hour trail to Svartifoss Waterfall - the black basalt cliffs are incredible
- Stay nearby in a guesthouse
- Day 4: Glacier hiking tour on Vatnajökull. Book in advance! Prices from 8,000-12,000 ISK per person.
Days 5-6: Jökulsárlón Diamond Beach
- Day 5: Drive to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
- Boat tour among icebergs (optional, 15,000 ISK) - worth it on a clear day
- Walk across to Diamond Beach where ice chunks sparkle on black sand
- Day 6: Early morning photos before the tour buses arrive - absolute magic
Days 7-8: Return West & Hella Area
- Day 7: Head back west, stop at the impressive Fagrifoss waterfall (requires 4x4)
- Day 8: Explore the Laki Craters area if you have 4x4 - otherworldly volcanic landscape
Days 9-10: Golden Circle & Back to Reykjavik

Safety
- Reynisfjara Beach: Never turn your back on the ocean - "sneaker waves" can sweep you away
- Glacier hikes: Always go with a licensed guide - crevasses are dangerous
- Hypothermia: Even in summer, temperatures can drop quickly - bring layers and a waterproof jacket
- Emergency: The emergency number is 112 - always tell someone where you're hiking
