Australia Day (National Holiday)

AustraliaPublic holidaysDate pending official confirmation

Australia Day is Australia’s official national day, traditionally observed on 26 January. It recalls the 1788 landing of the First Fleet and the raising of the Union Flag at Sydney Cove, while also recognising the contributions and achievements of Australians. Across large and small communities, visitors may encounter community festivals, concerts, citizenship ceremonies and community awards; the Australian of the Year presentation and Australia Day Honours are also associated with the occasion. For many Indigenous Australians, the day is also a time for reflection on history and reconciliation. Check current official dates, programmes and arrangements before planning your visit.
