Akrotiri Archaeological Site
Akrotiri is one of the most important prehistoric settlements in the Aegean, a Bronze Age Minoan town on the island of Santorini preserved under volcanic ash from the catastrophic eruption of around 1600 BCE. The remarkably intact multi-story buildings, sophisticated drainage systems, and spectacular frescoes paint a vivid picture of a prosperous and artistically vibrant civilization. The site is often linked to the legend of Atlantis and is among the most significant archaeological discoveries in Greece.
